Windows 10 Mobile users might be able to switch their default browser after Redstone 2 update

#Windows10Mobile #Redstone2Windows 10 Mobile users might be able to switch their default browser after Redstone 2 update : If you’re a Windows Mobile 10 user who isn’t exactly thrilled with the new Edge browser, here is some potentially good news. According to a report published this weekend, Microsoft is toying with the idea of allowing users to switch the default browser to another app on a Windows 10 Mobile handset.

This new feature would become available after the update to Windows 10 Redstone 2, as Microsoft aims to add more customization to the OS. In settings, the Microsoft Edge app now includes a button that reads “Change my default.”

This seems to give users the opportunity to make a third party app their default browser, one of the most requested changes asked for by those using the platform. Right at this moment, clicking on that button won’t do a single thing.

As we already noted, if Microsoft is going to allow users to swap the default browser on Windows 10 Mobile phones, it won’t be until next year when the Redstone 2 update is released.

Before we get too carried away, there is the possibility that the “Change my default” button on the Edge mobile app is merely the end result of code sharing with the desktop version of the browser. After all, Edge for desktops offers that feature.

It all may be a moot point anyway. Microsoft is said to be working feverishly on improving the Edge browser. By the time Windows 10 Mobile users gain the ability to switch default browsers, they might not want to make such a change. Source: phonearena
